The Bedran Protectorate Sphere (BPS) is a galactic territory consisting of many thousands of star systems and deep space stations that have been granted a form of semi-autonomy by the Bedran government. While locally autonomous and independent, most of the systems within the BPS recognize and retain the suzerainty of the Bedran Marches.

The BPS was formed gradually following the end of the Bedran expansionist era and the Godwar. The BPS consists mostly of planets that were already inhabited before Bedran arrival. The Bedran, being the eminent power in that region of the galaxy, struck deals with the local governments. The Bedran benefited from exclusive trade deals and militia support. In exchange, the planets of the BPS governed themselves and benefited from Bedran trade and innovation. While the Bedran do possess a number of outposts, embassies and freehold colonies throughout the BPS, the majority of it is self-governing.

The BPS sees routine patrols from the Bedran navy, particularly along the dominant trade routes. In addition to being a source of trade, the BPS acts as a buffer between the Marches and neutral space. Minor hostile entities and pirates rarely make it through the BPS to affect the Marches themselves, and major threats are slowed long enough for the Marches to mobilize. True to its name, the BPS forms a rough three-dimensional sphere around the Marches. While not nearly as populous as the Marches, the Protectorate Sphere is much less dense, and so forms an area roughly equal to the size of the Marches.
